Keynote: Your Everyday Health

Stephanie Johnson, PhD
Dr. Stephanie Johnson is a licensed clinical and research neuropsychologist with a private clinical practice in Washington, DC where she specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of neurodegenerative disorders including Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, stroke, and traumatic brain injury. She is also a consultant for the Wisconsin Alzheimer's Institute at the UW-Madison, and for the Stroke Disparities Program at Georgetown University Hospital. In addition to her research and clinical work in the area of Alzheimer's disease, Dr. Johnson also provided leadership and guidance on the importance of psychological science within the broader context of health policy during her tenure at the American Psychological Association. She established the International Dementia Research Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to providing education and resources for ethnically diverse populations and women dealing with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.

Marquita Edwards, MS
Marquita Edwards is owner of Inner Sparks Fitness and assistant professor at Springfield College and UW-Milwaukee. A believer in igniting your inner spark, she conducts fitness and holistic programs that blend fitness, fun, relaxation, nutrition, and motivation to energize, restore and maintain a healthy body. IN addition to conducting classes on yoga, meditation, aerobics, and healthy eating, she works with the National Arthritis Program, conducts employee workshops on stress reduction and group fitness, and is a frequent speaker for schools and churches.

Chef Deborah Spriggs-Ross, AASCA, CPC
Chef Deborah Spriggs-Ross, AASCA, CPC is the executive chef /owner of Expressively “Your” Personal Chef Service, by Chef Deborah since 1997. She is the only African American female Chef in Milwaukee Wisconsin that is a member of WCR membership of the finest female chefs in the Country. Along side of her is this country recognized chefs such as the late Julia Childs and Barbara Troop, Sherry Yard executive pastry chef at Wolfgang Puck’s restaurant Spago Beverly Hills and Cristeta Comerford the first female chef of the white house.

She has developed her passion for cooking and entertaining into a career as a Chef /Cooking Instructor. Chef Deborah attended (MATC) Milwaukee Area Technical College where she received both her degree in culinary arts and certificate in procurement management.

Chef Deborah is the resident chef for Girlfriends Health Guide for Women of Color and Food Writer since 2006.

Furthermore, she is a partner with the Director of Chefs for Nutrition for the United States Department of agriculture through the State of WI chapter.

Chef Deborah has taken her skills learned to a new level and is now teaching youth around Milwaukee in partnership with local YMCA’s, MPS, River-West Healthy Initiatives, OW-Holmes, COA and other educational venues that are youth serving. After bridging careers for more than twenty (20) years as a Social Services professional in the Non-For Profits Arena she began her culinary career as a full services caterer. Presently she is providing service as a personal & private chef, cooking instructor and soon to be cookbook author.


The ABC's of Healthy Living

Moderator: Gina Green-Harris, MBA
Gina Green-Harris, program manager at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health, Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Institute, provides leadership and governance to guide and build the capacity of a newly developed WAI Milwaukee office. She coordinates a solid outreach and research program designed to provide resources and recruit minorities into research that is culturally specific to African Americans in the Milwaukee area. Gina brings much experience in community outreach, training and leadership to this position. Within one year under her leadership the WAI-Milwaukee office has doubled the number of African Americans enrolled in the Wisconsin Registry for Alzheimer’s Prevention (WRAP) study and is being sought out by researchers across the state and nation to learn about their outreach and recruitment model. Previously, she worked in minority health for over 15 years in the area of HIV/AIDS, cancer, diabetes, SLE Lupus, substance abuse and domestic violence; and has served on statewide health steering committees and boards.

Panelist: Georgia Cameron, MBA, BS, RN
As deputy director for the Southeast Region Division of Public Health, Georgia Cameron is responsible for managing a team of 16 health professional staff who provide technical assistance and consultation for 21 local health departments and numerous community partners. In addition to working for the state, she serves on a number of community and professional boards. Prior to her work with the state, she provided consultation services to a variety of community-based agencies and local businesses in the Milwaukee area. Her many years of public health experience includes public health nursing and management responsibilities with the City of Milwaukee Health Department.

Panelist: Paula Lampley, PhD
Dr. Paula Lampley is Director of Eligibility and Assessment (EAA) at Social Development Commission (SDC). Her primary responsibility is the administration of W-2 (EAA) program operations and compliance operations. Her leadership is characterized by an emphasis on creativity and the implementation of innovative methodologies to improve services. Dr. Lampley and her team have sought to identify best practices and incorporate them into new processes to meet the needs of the diverse clients they serve. She has extensive knowledge of the problems facing low income working families in Milwaukee. In addition to providing leadership for program operations and compliance, she is responsible for program development and interactions with the public and private community organizations.

Panelist: Debi Miller, EdD
Dr. Debi Miller is a public relations strategist, counselor, researcher, educator, advocate and leader. She has to her credit an impressive range of professional and educational achievements, which has made her one of the most prominent African-Americans in public relations. In her current role as vice president of philanthropy for the Aurora Health Care Foundation, Dr. Miller is responsible for all fund-raising programs and activities necessary to engender community support and charitable giving to help Aurora Health Care achieve its mission of community service. She joined Aurora Health Care in 2008 as vice president of corporate affairs in the South Region, which encompasses Kenosha, Racine, Walworth and Rock counties. Aurora Health Care is a not-for-profit Wisconsin health care provider and a national leader in efforts to improve the quality of health care.

Kate Pollock, RD, CD
Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin Bariatric and Sports Medicine Dietitian, Certificate in Adult Weight Management.

At the Sports Medicine clinic Kate works closely with doctors, physical therapists, and trainers to evaluate patients’ food and fluid intake and make nutrition recommendations that ensure optimal performance. She also currently works as the Froedtert Bariatric Dietitian, preparing patients for surgery, and for the Wisconsin Beef Council, doing healthy eating presentations around the Milwaukee area.

Sue Hugl has worked as a registered nurse since January of 1978. She has been working in the area of diabetes education for approximately 12 years, and at Froedtert Hospital's Diabetes Care Center since 2003.

Anna Purdy has worked as a Nurse Practitioner at the Breast Care Center at Froedtert Hospital since 1999. She works in conjunction with specialists to provide expert and compassionate treatment.

Monica Koca is a Clinical Pharmacist working at Froedtert Hospital in the Day Hospital Cancer Center. She assists the doctors and nurse practitioners in the Clinic helping to assure patient medication dosing and safety.

Sarah Kaldem, MSN, APNP-BC
Froedtert & The Medical College Primary Care Foot Program

Sarah Kaldem is a Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) nurse practitioner dedicated to the non-operative care of common foot and ankle disorders. She works in conjunction with specialists to evaluate and treat foot and ankle problems and to provide non-operative, preventative care for diabetic patients.
